Blogging Tips: How to Make a Text Mask (And Sparkle Text!) in Picmonkey

So it's no secret that I use PicMonkey for everything. If you follow along, you know I made a tutorial on PicMonkey a little while ago for Drop Shadow Text. So welcome to Part II of the series!

Venus Trapped in Mars is a great go to for blogging tutorials, and I've learned a lot from her. One thing that I've been dying to learn is how to make my own sparkle text, which she has a tutorial on but it's only for Photoshop :'( so ever since I've been trying to figure out how to do it in PicMonkey.

Guess what! I've had success and it's actually really simple.

1. You will first need to start off with the "mask" image that you would like to show through. I used this. So download this to someplace you can remember.

2. Now go to PicMonkey and start off with a blank canvas by clicking design. Enter a custom size. You can always crop later, so bigger is better.

3. Your canvas should automatically pop-up as white. You can probably make a transparent canvas too (if you want to make a header or something like that), but I haven't tried it yet. Now go ahead and type your text. Keep in mind that the image will only show through on the text, so the bolder the font the better! I chose Ultra and typed in all caps since it was the biggest text I could find. Great, now go ahead and hit flatten (circled red at the top bar).

4. Now go to the overlay tab (looks like a butterfly on the left navigational bar). Click "Your Own" overlay and select your "mask" that you downloaded earlier. All you'll need to do is drag the corners so that they completely cover your text.

5. Now all you need to do is click on the dropdown of "Blend Mode" and select lighten! Viola here is your final product!

Now isn't that easy? I'm really excited to start using this more often. The first image I made with two text masks. I first made the "And Sparkle Text Too", then I made the big image and used the Sparkle text as an overlay.

Show me what you've made with PicMonkey! Are these tutorials helpful?
